FIERY PRINT
The Fiery color laser uses a four color (CMYK) process. Because of the inherent limitation of a high speed printing device, you should take the usual precautions necessary for a four color printing process:

• All images converted to CMYK.
• No colored type smaller than 7pt.
• Create a 1/8'' bleed for designs with bleed.
• No area of solid tint covering more than 50% of the page size.
• Never use the "Registration" color (100^C100^M100^Y100^K).
• Add noise (1–2%) to gradients and blends to prevent banding.

The Fiery RIP charge is $10.00 minimum for the first 200MB and $5.00 for each additional 100MB (in 100MB increments) measured in terms of the size of spooled print job. Failure to supply files according to our specification may result in delay and additional troubleshooting charges at $60.00 per hour.

• Uncompressed and flattened 8 bit RGB TIFF in Adobe RGB (1998) color space in the correct
  print size and resolution (200DPI for images up to 20x30 and 150DPI for larger sizes).
• Illustrator (or similar) EPS with all type converted to outline and all images embedded.
• PDF with all fonts and images embedded.

APPLICATION NOTES

Adobe Acrobat (PDF)

• Choose the "Press Quality" option in Acrobat Distiller when creating PDF.
• All fonts and images must be embedded.
• Do not use your application's direct PDF export feature (if it has any). Only use Acrobat Distiller
  to create PDFs. We cannot guarantee that PDFs from other sources will print properly.

Adobe Photoshop

• Select Edit>Color Settings>US Prepress Defaults (Command+Shift+K on Macintosh, or
  Control+Shift+K on Windows).
• Save in uncompressed TIFF or EPS formats only. Do not use formats such as compressed TIFF, JPEG,
  GIF, BMP, PICT, etc.
• Files must be flattened and saved in 8 bit mode only.
• Save in RGB, Gray Scale, or CMYK mode only. Do not use Lab, Duotone, Indexed Color mode, etc.
• For Fiery prints, save in CMYK TIFF or EPS format, 200–300 DPI resolution.
• For Epson prints, save in RGB TIFF format in Adobe RGB (1998) color space, at 150–200DPI resolution.
• All images must be saved at the final print size.

Adobe Illustrator, FreeHand, Corel Draw

• Save art in EPS format only. Do not export PDF directly from the application.
• All text must be converted to outlines.
• All images must be embedded, not linked.

Quark Xpress, Adobe InDesign, Adobe PageMaker

• Do not use RGB and CMYK elements in the same layout.
• Submit all fonts and images used in the layout. Use you layout application's builtin collecting tools
  for this purpose (for example Collect for Output in Quark, or Save for Service Provider for InDesign).
• Layout must be at the final print size, with bleeds if required. If the print size is too large for the layout
  program, create the layout at 50% or 25% of the print size and we will scale it up at print time.
• Do not export PDF directly from InDesign 2/CS or Quark 6. Use only Acrobat Distiller to create PDF.

Other Applications

• Microsoft Word is suitable for black & white or color laser prints only.
• Powerpoint is acceptable for large format output, but for best results you should use a professional
  layout application.
• Formatting in Word or Powerpoint may change because of font issues. For this reason you should submit
  PDF files whenever possible.
• Do not expect accurate color matching in Microsoft Word or Powerpoint. The color palette in Powerpoint
  is more suitable for onscreen viewing rather than printing. Try to avoid using extremely saturated colors
  such as deep blues, because they may not print properly.
• If we do not have the application you use, you will have to submit a PDF file.
